Our History

Barangay La Suerte has a rich history that dates back to the early 1950s.

Barangay La Suerte is located at the eastern part of the Municipality of Mlang. It is bounded by five Barangays namely at the northern part is Barangay Pag-asa, Eastern part is Barangay Luz Village, southern part is Barangay Palma Perez and La Fortuna and on the western part is Barangay New Rizal. It is 15 kilometers away from the Municipal Hall.

It was known to the elders that Barangay La Suerte was created on the year 1955. The first settlers of this place are Bagobos, B'laans, Antiqueno and Ilonggos. On the year 1957 Mauricio Alcantara was first elected Tenyente Del Baryo. He organized people and Barangay Police to maintain peace and order. He named this place thru consensus the name La Suerte is derived from antiqueno and Ilonggo term Pa Suerte suerte lang to acquire a piece of land from their own way of living.

On the year 1960 Tomas Bogador was elected Tenyente del Baryo. He serve for three (3) years. He later leave Barangay La Suerte and transferred to other place, and Martin Ambid assume as Tenyente Del Baryo.

In year 1964 Remedios Pentacassi became the first lady became tenyente Del Baryo. She serve our Barangay for two (2) years. Later on she transferred her residence in Arakan. She hand over her position to Pascual Palma.

In year 1965 Rodolfo Medrocillo won in Barangay election. In his term he was called Barangay Captain. In 1967 election, Pascual Palma was elected as the new Barangay Captain. He opened the Barangay roads, Barangay site was formalized and distributed to individuals who want to build their houses. He serve our barangay for 15 years. In the month of September 1983, he was killed by member of New People's Army (NPA) at New Rizal public Market in New Rizal Mlang, Cotabato during market day.

On the same year Luciano Barredo assume office thru the law of succession. Due to rising rebel activities, he left our Barangay and transferred Miasong, Tupi, South Cotabato. Luis Sencio was designated as Barangay Captain of the same year.

On year 1986 Sixto Muyco was designated as Officer in charge of this Barangay. On his term general registration was made. And on March 7, 1989 he was shot dead by unknown infiltrators.

In year 1989, Eduardo Bilan was elected Barangay Captain. With the help of Military men he enforced peace and order in our Barangay. He implement projects like all-weather roads, opening of farm to market roads, construction of Barangay Hall, construction of Bridge, electrification program, daycare program and other projects. In his time Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) was given to Barangay. He serve our Barangay for 14 years. After that he was appointed as Barangay Treasurer by Punong Barangay Nicanor Untal. He serves as treasurer for 13 years. He passed away on July 3, 2020 at the age of 65.
